2023
The ladies section was formerly formed and entered the
Casnewydd league to gain experience for all the new bowlers. They had a very
good season playing against some fine experienced teams. The men's section
continued with some great results against 1st and 2nd division sides but
narrowly missed out on promotion. Hopefully the 2024 season will see us push
for that well deserved promotion. The green is looking and playing fantastic,
with compliments from all the visiting teams.
-
April
2022
Well done to Mike Bird, Paul Gray, Brian Porter and Lyndon
Jones for claiming 8 shots against Gilwern on Saturday 23rd April. They will
now be posted onto the bowls international hall of fame hotshots.
-
Season
2021
Although bowls were once again up and running there were no
promotion or demotions in the leagues. The ladies section has been created
with several new ladies and look forward to this section growing. The green is
looking good with all the hard work now paying off. Finals day was well
attended and an update will be posted here.
-
January
2021
We have commenced advertising to set up a ladies and junior
section. We have had great interest and hopefully once the season starts and
restrictions lifted we can put on a number of training sessions. If you know
of any one who may be interested please get them to contact me.
-
September
2020
Due to the pandemic no league fixtures were played. However
we did manage to play a few friendlies and a couple of internal competitions
to ensure that the season was not a total write off. We
welcomed a few new members to the park who I am sure will enjoy next years
bowling next year. A huge thank you once again to our maintenance team and
together with the new machinery the green is looking it tip top condition.
Roll on 2021 when hopefully we will get back to some normality.

We
are pleased to announce that we will be setting up a new junior section for
2021. Juniors equipment ranging from junior size bowls, street bowls, wedges
and targets will be available with coaching on a weekly basis. Schools will
also be offered taster sessions so if you are a school, parent or junior and
are interested please contact Paul Gray.

2020 - Tony Blake

It is with great
sadness Tony Blake who took up bowls at Panteg Park and was a very
accomplished bowler has sadly passed away. Our thoughts and wishes go out to
his family at this time. Rest in peace.

May
2020 - covid 19 coronavirus
Well we have been in
lock down for over 6 weeks and deaths are now reducing. With over 30k deaths
in the UK we are hopefully seeing signs that we are winning the battle.
Hopefully they will start lifting the lockdown and we will be back on the
bowling green soon. Green Maintenance is continuing so that when we can go
out to bowl again the green will be ready. Brian has yet again secured us
with emergency funding and together with hopefully everyone paying their
subs for this season we will be able to get through to next season.
-
January
2020 - Happy New Year
A huge thank you to
Brian Forster who has again secured another grant for us which enables us to
complete our green keeping equipment. We will also be looking to start
taster sessions for both juniors and ladies. If you are interested in either
helping out or know of any juniors or ladies who may be interested please
let me know. Fixture list has now been completed and this years we have at
least 45 games so please ensure you can support these games and put your
names down early. We also have a mixed touring side in June and to help us
out the ladies of Panteg House will be joining us. Please also ensure that
the correct footwear is being worn and that they are only worn on the green
and ensure that all players stay at least a yard away from the edges as a
lot of work and expense has been put into the green.
-
November 2019 - Bank Improvements
I have nearly
completed the raising of the bank which has taken over 4 tons of earth, £250
of wood and materials, and over 70 hours of labour to get to this point. I
have donated all material and labour in memory of my father in law Mr Norman Atack who was a valued member of Panteg Park Bowls Club and passed away
11
years ago.

It is with great
sadness that one of our life members and past President has passed away.

What a day non stop for over 3 hours. Thanks to Chris for the donation of
the targets, signs and sweets which raised a magnificent £90 for the club.
Also a huge thank you to all the helpers on this hot day giving instruction

APRIL
2019
A huge thank you to
everyone that has given up their time and the numerous donations to make the
pavilion and green one of the best around. Our opening game was a pleasure
to watch with the green starting to look good, we now have a weekly schedule
of maintenance which includes cutting, switching and watering so a special
thanks to our maintenance team.
-
JANUARY
2019
HAPPY NEW YEAR....
Work has started on the mens toilets so thanks to those that are involved.
The green is looking better every week and the edges have now been tidied.
Hopefully next month our maintenance team can get to work on the ditches and
green surround. We also still have a bit of painting to complete but this
can be done at our next meet. Fixture list has been updated and it looks
like we will have a long season ahead of us. Welcome back to a few of our
old members who will bring strength to our team for the coming season.
-
DECEMBER
2018
Thanks to everyone who
has helped paint and repair the outside of the pavilion, it now looks very
impressive and also the flag pole has been painted as well so we should be
ably to fly our flag at every home game. We have now a maintenance team, who
will meet every month to go through any jobs that will be required through
out the season, if you would like to join the team let me know so I can
update the emails. The new specialist green company are doing a great job
and the green is starting to look good, so hopefully we will have a good
playing surface for next season.
-
We
are also working on a new web site and a peek preview can be seen here. Dont
worry about details they are just dummy pages. https://iamwillgray.github.io/awd/pantegpark/home.html

******************************************************************************************** All the members of Panteg Park past
and present would like to wish Roger Jones all the very best for the future.
Roger has decided after much deliberation to move clubs to further
his competitive challenge. Roger has been a magnificent member and ambassador for
the club, and we all wish him well. We hope that once Roger has achieved his aims
and goals he will return back to the club in the future. Roger remains a life
member of the club and will be sorely missed by all. Only a couple of us remain
who knew Roger when he first joined us all those years ago and it has been a
privilege playing with him and having him as a team member. Roger will always be welcomed
at the club and indeed he will pop in whenever he has a free moment.
A new chapter in Panteg Park begins as this year we have seen a tremendous
increase in new members whose enthusiasm for the game will take us through the
next 20 years. Our first target is to regain promotion next year and with the
new players bedded in this season I can see us growing in strength. Roll on
2017.

JUNE
2016 - WELCOME TO ALL NEW MEMBERS
After our emergency
meeting at the start of the season to discusS the dwindling number of
members, I am so pleased to see so many new faces at this great club and it
looks like we have a few more on the way. It is our 90th birthday next year
(shame its not this year we could have invited the queen) so its with great
joy that I can now see this club hit 100 years. All clubs go through these
transitions and it can only make us stronger. Already I can see the
competitiveness of the new beginners and I am sure that after the first
season under their belts I can see our great club rise up through the
leagues again.
A huge thanks to our
maintenance team who are doing great things to the green and pavilion. We learn
by our mistakes and within the next couple of weeks our green will be back to
one of the best in Torfaen.
I would also like to take
this opportunity to congratulate all the members of the friends of Fishpond Park
for their huge response to the condition of the Park. They have transformed the
Park into once again a tranquil place to socialise. You can follow the friends
on this link.
www.facebook.com/FishpondsPark APRIL
2016
Welcome to a new
season. It will be great to see old and new members at the park this month,
as we start our
campaign for promotion due to the disappointment of last season. All the
very best to everyone in all competitions and hope that everyone enjoys the
season.

that I have to inform you of the passing of Mike Banks a valued member of

Our deepest sympathy goes out to all his family.
-
MAY 2015
With the number of new
players and position changes, we are now seeing some good results. It was
always going to be a difficult start but everyone has rallied round and we
can see the start of some good rinks. Our first big test is Saturday, we
have a full team and hope to see us beat Blaina in our first MBA game.
-
MAY 2015
Congratulations once
again to Roger Jones for making the Welsh Elite Squad an also representing
Wales against Jersey.
-
FEBRUARY 2015 Well
we have made it to another year after our first year of self financing the club. The club would like
to thank all members for last year and ensuring that the club survived its
first year of self maintenance. We say
goodbye to a few members and friends this year which is a shame as Panteg
Park has always been an enjoyable club to play for. However we welcome back
a couple of members who were unable to play last season and to a couple of
new experienced players who we hope will enjoy their time at the Park. The
club has had quite a bit of vandalism over the winter and it has been
decided that a gate and fence will be erected around the pavilion veranda
and also a gate leading down to the green, to reduce any further
vandalism and to stop any non members using the green. As you may know Girlings have decided to leave the
Park and have joined forces with
Pontypool Park. so that both teams can survive. They will play as Pontypool
in the EVBA and as Girlings in the MBA. The MBA has this year changed the
league system and reduced each league to 8 teams which we will play home and
away, unfortunately this has meant that as we were in mid table of division
2 last year, we will now be placed in division 3 of the new season. I am
sure that this will not be for long. You will see with all the new leagues for both
the MBA and EVBA it does not leave us with many gaps and therefore a lot of
friendlies have had to be dropped. Look forward to seeing you all at the Pre
season meeting 10th March at the Pavilion see fixtures page..

MARCH
2014 - WE GO IT ALONE
During the closed season the local council has decided
to pull out of all maintenance of greens and buildings and therefore clubs
in Torfaen had to self finance the running of bowls clubs. At one point it
looked like Panteg Park bowls club would leave its current ground but the
members have rallied togeather and it is certain that we will continue
playing at the park for the foreseeable future On behalf of the club I
would like to thank all officers who have worked wonders during the closed
season to ensured this happened.

the least to receive. I would like to thank all members for their kind words

We were holding our
breath as the weather for the day was going to be pretty awful, however this
did not materialise and with only a couple of small showers the weather was
sunny and hot. All 4 finals were able to be played on the day which always
makes for a good finals day. The spectators saw some great bowling from all

AUGUST
2013 - WE ARE PROMOTED TO DIVISION 2
We went to Pontnewydd
knowing that if we won by 10 shots we would have automatic promotion.
However Pontnewydd were fighting for survival in the 3rd division and if
they won they had a chance to stay up. After the first 4 ends Pontnewydd
showed a dogged determination leading in 3 of the 4 rinks. As the ends
started to turn over Panteg started to play with great authority and slowly
started to take the lead. Panteg siezed the moment and on the 18th end Ken
Davies rink picked up seven shots and this spurred on Panteg even greater,
the winning post was in sight and with a 30 shot lead there was no way we
were going to let this slip. The outcome was a massive 34 shot difference
with all rinks winning in style. Congratulations to all the players for the
great effort they have put into the club to achieve this promotion. We have
narrowly missed out on promotion for the past 6 years either by shot
difference or by 1 or 2 points, so it is with great pleasure that we are now
in DIVISION 2 and my home page has been updated to reflect this.
******************************************************************************************
-
AUGUST
2013 - MBA
After a very shaky
start we put ourselves in a position of possible promotion with 2 games to
go. We were in a positive mood against a Bedwelty side who were also in
contention and they were looking for a 10 point win to have any chance. We
started off very well but it was soon apparent that Bedwelty wanted to win
this game more than us, however we took a vital 2 points to take us into the
final game against Pontnewydd, needing 10 points to guarantee us promotion.

Great International Series win in Llandrindod
Wells yesterday afternoon. If you want the full results they can

It was an outstanding and gritty performance
by our team with the hardest match against England on the final

games. In the end we finished with 6 points, and a shot
difference of +65 shots.
